location

Our house on the outskirts of Kamilari in the South of Crete is situated somewhat away from tourism and is all the more connected to Crete and its inhabitants, about 3km from the sea. On a clear day the 3 highest mountain ranges of Crete can be seen from our spacious terrace: the Ida Mountains with the Zeus Cave in the north, the Lefka Ori, the White Mountains in the west and the Dicti Mountains in the east. You also can enjoy a view of the Libyan Sea with its islands in the South. And there is an overwhelming view into the "Messara", the most fertile valley of Crete, with the Minoan palace "Phaistos" (approx.1km away) in its center. The morning sun bathes the valley from the direction of the eastern mountains and in the evening there is a very impressive sunset on the sea in the west.

The old village of 300 souls „Kamilari“ is situated about 1km away from the main road that leads from Phaistos to Matala. The village has retained its Greek charm. There are five taverns, a pizzeria, and a kafenion and a large grocery store. Going out is cheap. The mountain village Kamilari is an ideal starting point for short walks to beautiful Minoan cult places, to very beautiful beaches by the sea or to the idyllic small mountain villages. From here you can also make great day trips, such as mountaineering, gorge walks, visits to monasteries, marine or motorcycle tours, etc...
